vermont counseling, coaching and consultation

Denise Pickering expanded her services to include coaching and corporate consultation. She needed a website and biography that would thread her many areas of practice and expertise. We began with insight interviews and from there developed a website, biography, and tagline statement that unified her varied practice areas by getting at the heart of what motivated her work.  www.denisepickering.com

BIOGRAPHY

For more than twenty years, Dr. Denise Pickering has helped individuals, groups, and communities express the depth of their true identities and transition to their joy. It is in the fullness of this exploration that clients develop a transformational interior clarity. By working with adaptive, mindful processes designed to recognize and meet clients as they share their innermost self without masks or pretension, Denise creates spaces for individuals to truly belong, to see and be seen, to find a home in their essential nature—the ultimate condition of being.
Drawing on extensive clinical expertise—including the three levels of training in the Internal Family Systems (IFS) model emphasizing empowerment and self-leadership, as well as methods from the renowned Teleos Leadership Institute—Denise assists P-12 schools, colleges and universities, non-profit organizations, as well as executives and individuals in moments of transition to connect to the immense interior resources often required to fully meet the potential of threshold moments. While Denise has counseled and coached scores of individuals, her approach is particularly resonant for clients in transition—from transgender youth and adults; to executives and leaders managing/or contemplating new roles; to training small groups of clinicians and educators whose work frames communities and cultures large and small.
More recently, Denise has expanded her practice to focus on professional coaching. As a third of people’s lives are spent in the workplace, professional experiences at all organizational levels significantly shape individual and collective identities and define an organizational ethos. It is in this dynamic center that Denise constructs partnerships to unearth buried resources by deeply connecting individuals to their work as an intimate expression of who they are and the talents they uniquely bring.
Denise Pickering founded Vermont Counseling, Coaching and Consultation LLC following her work as assistant professor at University of Vermont (UVM) graduate counseling program and 20 years of clinical experience. She has presented widely on issues related to counseling transgender people, developing leadership, and mindfulness training and has published in bothCounseling Today and the Journal of LGBT Issues in Counseling. Denise has served on numerous committees and peer review boards including the Association for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Issues in Counseling (a division of the American Counseling Association) and Transgender Committee and UVM’s Presidential Commission on LGBTQ Equity. She is currently a part-time faculty member at the Community College of Vermont and will be an adjunct faculty member at the Sage College Professional School Counseling Program, School of Education, starting in Fall 2015. Denise earned her Doctor of Philosophy in counselor education at Ohio University; Master of Science in Education, community counseling, University of Dayton; and Bachelor of Arts in health services management, Capital University.
