Faced with the challenge of making something lasting and meaningful from 700+ applicant book recommendations, in collaboration with Carol June Jessop, I developed an annual poster for accepted students that would become one of Bennington College’s most celebrated projects. Organized by Library of Congress categories, the poster offered incoming students a first, tangible glimpse into the spirit of Bennington, where individual curiosity shapes community knowledge. The campaign won a Gold CASE Award for design, boosted summer yield, and inspired a long-term collaboration with Crossett Library. There, librarian Jared Della Rocca launched The Librarian Who Reads Everything — a blog project where he read and reviewed each incoming student’s recommended book. His blog gained 10,000 followers, was named Tumblr’s top #lit blog, and led to a monthly literary column in The Bennington Banner. The posters, produced annually for more than a decade, became treasured collector’s items, now occasionally surfacing on eBay.
